#Israel was founded in 1947 on top of a pre-existing nation that was colonized and occupied by Britain. None of the indigenous people were asked their opinion, and there wasn't a single democratic thing about the new nation's foundation. Immediately — in 1948 — Israel began pushing beyond the territory that was 'given' to it by the western powers. The first conflict resulted in an ethnic cleansing of around 750,000 Palestinians. In the coming decades, Israel continued this expansion and ethnic cleansing until the nation formerly known as #Palestine — now no longer recognized as a nation by the western world — was a splintered and impoverished population. In the land that they were previously 'allowed' to live in, as an exploited colony, now rose huge modern cities funded by the very people who had done that exploiting, and armed with modern weapons specifically designed to continue pushing out the indigenous people. Every single democratic and internationalist movement in Palestine was stamped out by Israel, leaving Hamas, a religious fundamentalist group, as their last enemy that they conveniently allowed to form de facto government. This last push to finally extinguish Palestine altogether as even a de jure entity is only the last in a long line of genocidal actions taken by Israel since its illegal creation.
