A local org does all its organization via Discord. This makes them the most technically adept of all orgs in this city, as everyone else uses either email mailing lists like it's 1995, or
nothing at all. But obviously, Discord isn't exactly ideal for talking about anything more serious than May Day parades either. I suggested years ago that they move to Matrix, and they rebuffed me; apparently, people not being "techy" is a good enough excuse for them to not even not care, but stand in the way of everyone who does.
Well, I'm not really with that org much anymore (they let in a Gonzaloite that I have a personal history with and will not be in the same room with, for everyone's sake), and
now they finally agreed when a comrade brought up Matrix again. They didn't want to use my server, though, instead asking someone else to create a server for them.
It took that person another year to finally get around to setting that up. Buuut...they didn't (don't know how to?) federate, and have registration closed, so it's still not being used —
can't be used — and they're once again not responding. And once again, people are just fine with this.
This is the state of leftist organization, ladies enbies and gentlemen. This is our methods of organization, the very basis upon which we endeavour to get things done together, and we treat it like an afterthought, like Luddism is a valid excuse and we should just leave it to the trots to sell their newspapers rather than actually try to evolve. We're a larp community and nothing more. #
