Just a general tip -
When possible, it's a lot more effective to make someone's behavior not pose a bother than it is to try to convince them to change behavior.
IE - the hall light being left on is a bother to me. Getting my roommate (not you, bestie, before you) to turn it off was a battle, and involved confrontation.
The problem got better when I could turn it off from bed, and went away when I made it turn itself off.
If you can make someone's problem behavior fix itself, do that.
