As we recoil in horror at the targeted killing of Anas Sharif and his Al Jazeera colleagues, as Israel gets away with the targeted massacres of hundreds of journalists, let us remember that all the way back in 2002, the distinguished award-winning American "journalist" and "historian" Anne Applebaum had advocated for the targeted killing of Palestinian journalists by Israel. Since then, she has continued receiving accolades from the Western establishment—she won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004, she was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2021.

As a denizen of the Fediverse, I feel shame as well as rage that Anne Applebaum's account here has over 58,000 followers, that over 58,000 people treat this psychopath as an authority on democracy and autocracy and geopolitics.
